This necklace consists of recycled newspaper headlines and articles relating to the death of George Floyd. It is a direct reflection and expression of my emotional response to this horrific, senseless death. As an African American, I felt a deep connection to Mr. Floyd. If it happened to Mr. Floyd, it could certainly happen to any and every African American man in my life. In a sense, my father, my ex-boyfriends, my male friends, my uncles and my nephews are all George Floyd. Every one of their lives have value. Black Lives Matter.
The newspapers used include New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and The Indianapolis Star. The newspapers are hand-formed into beads and stitched together on nylon cord. All the newspaper beads are sealed and protected by a non-toxic coating. Swarovski Crystal Beads are hand-stitched to the surface of the newspaper beads. Sterling Silver closure.
